I have a 9.6 V 1600 mAh intellect nunchuck battery. I was charging it with a smart charger yesterday, and when i came back two hours later, the smell of rubber filled my room. It didnt smell like burning or anything, but the battery was very hot, and it just smelled like rubber. Is this something i should be concerned about?

hey house. the battery that you have will tend to heat up when you charge it. sometime ....if not all the the time. i know you said you have a smart charger, but some times those smart chargers are not smart enough. sometimes those smart chargers need to be told what to do.......meaning you gotta set the "charge current in" especially for those smaller type batteries with "mah" under 1600. most of your "smart chargers" come pre-set with the "charge current" of 3a (3amp) not that is pretty much standard for your larger mAh batteries (3600 and up, i wouldn't even try to charge a 2000mAh at 3amp......but any ways, what happen with your situation , is you probably over charge your cells. that is why you smell that burning smell. worst case senario......you overcharged your battery and the cells in your battery won't retain much of a charge in the future. your battery will still work but its not gonna be the same. how i know, i been there and done that, over charge it , fried it you name it. if you are planing to invest in this hobby a good smart charger that is really simple to use is www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_74&products_id=1715it got a dial knob so you can set your own charge current as you desire for smaller to larger mAh batteries in your collection, a fast charge button and most importantly a fan to keep your charger from over heating it self during the charging process. ;D it comes with two type of connector large and small , charger, power cord, and most importantly a chart to set your charge current, what you shoulda been charging your battery was : 2a and not the pre set amp your smart charger was on. ok....i ramble enough......happy airsofting ;D

This is the charger i used. www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_74&products_id=1224I dont know if you can see it in the picture but there are two amp setting on the charger, one is 0.9 and the other one is 1.8a. I was charging on 1.8 (assuming it charges faster that way). I tested the gun after, and it seemed to be working just fine. I do think i messed up my battery, as later when i shot the gun at a packaging box, it failed to penetrate the box. Or maybe i didn't fully charge it? Jester told me to charge it for a whole night. But im scared i might burn my house down.

A new battery is cheaper than a house. Buy a new one!

the charger you have would have a green light to let you know the battery is fully charged, so you would have to unplug it.
I "think" that charger just turns green to let you know the battery is fully charge, in which case you would have to unplug it, but it doesn't stop charging the battery. So you overcharged your batteries.

I just did a "poor man's chrono" (found here airsoftlover.blogspot.com/2009/06/cheap-way-to-calculate-fps.html) on my M4 and it seems to be shooting at 350-370. I dont know if its true or not but everything seems to be in working order. But i am definitely going to get it chrono it once i get my hands on one. Thanks for the responses guys. Appreciate it.
